Incident Command
Ephesians 6:10 “Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by His vast strength”
There is a national system that is designed and followed to be applied to every emergency scenario, from a simple car wreck to a nationwide disaster. It establishes authority in any situation. It is followed by your local fire department all the way up to the Federal Emergency Management Agency. It’s called the “Incident Command System.”
Every emergency scene has a structure of Authority. It’s designed so that the fire scene benefits from the most senior and best-trained commander.
In life… you and I are limited. BUT… we benefit and can have confidence because we draw on the strength and wisdom of a God, our Incident Commander, who is unlimited.
Ephesians 6:10 CSB “Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by His vast strength.”
We have to ask, “What does it mean to be strengthened by the Lord?”
How do we tap into that power? I’m afraid that too many of us are living powerless lives because we rely on our Heavenly Father as an emergency backup rather than the source of our daily strength. It shows when we lack resiliency and determination to stay on mission as rescuers…we often are disappointed by our own failure in the face of temptation, or we may shrink when given the opportunity to share our faith, or we may doubt ourselves when God gives us a vision for ministry. The truth of the matter is that when we rely on our own power, we will always come up short.
There’s a better way, but it starts with surrender. It starts by recognizing that we need to daily draw on God’s power through His Word to us. We have to recognize that we need it.
Truly consider the driving force of your life right now… are you drawing deeply from the well of Scripture? Are you finding your identity in its pages? Is your motivation gratitude as you consider how the Bible describes God’s great favor on you? Does its wisdom guide you in every situation? Do the verses you read define your full purpose in every situation?
2 Peter 1:3 CSB “His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.“
Focus on that word “everything.” The power of God has given you absolutely everything you need to live life on mission for Him. Instead of just surviving, let’s find our strength in the Lord’s great power. When our full trust is in Him, He invites us into His mission of rescuing and transforming others.
