The USA’s Spiritual Need in a Time of Strength
The United States is deeply invested in economic vitality and national security. Our two-party system holds different views on how these goals are best achieved. The current administration gained both the popular and electoral votes necessary to win the election, with the economy and national security among the key issues that influenced voters.
The USA is a global leader—economically powerful and a military superpower. Yet, our Achilles’ heel is not often discussed: spiritual poverty and weakness. Our trust is increasingly placed in government rather than in Jesus, the Creator God.
Even though our national pledge affirms:
“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all,” a candidate who is openly committed to establishing biblical values would likely not be elected by today’s general public.
The Decline of a Biblical Worldview
According to the American Worldview Inventory 2023 Release #1: “The 2023 incidence of biblical worldview is 4%, based on the tracking study of the worldview of adults across the nation. That is a seemingly small but noteworthy drop from 6% three years ago.”
A biblical worldview means ordering every area of life according to the teachings of the Bible. With an adult population of roughly 262 million, that 4% represents only about 10.5 million people.
Though the USA is often called a “Christian nation” founded on the principles of Jesus Christ, our practices are largely secular. This mirrors ancient Israel during the time of Hosea—a nation founded by God, yet living according to the ways of the world.
In Hosea’s day, Israel was militarily strong and economically prosperous, but spiritually impoverished. God’s judgment came through the Assyrian conquest in 722 B.C. They relied on military and economic strength rather than on God.
The Urgent Need for a Disciplemaking Movement
Like Israel, the USA must turn back to the Lord Jesus Christ. Government exists as the judicial arm of God to protect from wrongdoing (Romans 13:1–5), but it cannot replace God as our ultimate source of hope.
The solution is the establishment of a Matthew 28:19–20 movement—in homes, local churches, neighborhoods, schools, government offices, businesses, and all areas of society. Only God can bring this about, and it will require a movement of prayer to ignite a disciplemaking movement in the USA.
At Plethos, our leaders are committed to praying for such a movement. We are prepared to help local churches become disciplemaking powerhouses, but the first step is prayer. Only God can move hearts to make disciplemaking a personal priority.
Plethos is committed to spearheading this prayer movement by:
Praying for God to raise up prayer warriors.
Training believers to live in a way that positions them for answered prayer.
Teaching what to pray to see God answer.

Learning from Hosea’s Warning
Hosea prophesied between 746–724 B.C. to a people enjoying a golden age of peace and prosperity but who had forsaken God’s Word. If Israel had obeyed God’s instructions, they would have remembered:
Exodus 20:1–18 – The Ten Commandments
Deuteronomy 6:4–7 – The Shema prayer
Deuteronomy 8:11–20 – Do not forget God in times of prosperity
The USA has removed the Ten Commandments from public spaces, forgotten the one true God, neglected to teach His Word, and taken credit for our prosperity. The result is moral and spiritual poverty.
Hosea told Israel they were perishing for lack of knowledge of God (Hosea 4:1, 6) and delivered God’s message:
“For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.” – Hosea 6:6
Because Israel failed to learn, live, and pass on God’s Word, they fell to Assyria in 722 B.C. The USA is walking the same path. We need God to move every believer’s heart to make the Great Commission his life’s purpose.
Effective prayer moves God to stir hearts for disciplemaking and to open doors for the Gospel to save and transform lives.

The Great Commission in Both Testaments
Old Testament: Deuteronomy 6:4–7 commands adults to know the One true God, love Him, learn His Word, live His Word, and teach God’s Word to their children from birth. This is disciplemaking.
New Testament: Matthew 28:19–20 sends believers of all ages to make disciples, baptize them, and teach obedience to God’s Word.
God promised blessings for obedience (Deuteronomy 28:1–14) and curses for unrepentant disobedience (Deuteronomy 28:15–68). Jesus affirmed blessings for those who hear and obey God’s Word (Luke 11:28) and warned of desolation for those who reject it (Matthew 23:37–39).
Our Calling Today
We are to be disciplemakers in every sphere of life—home, church, neighborhood, workplace, school, government, and social circles.
If we obey the Great Commission, blessings will flow into our lives and communities. If we do not, spiritual desolation will follow, just as it did for Israel in Hosea’s time.
We must pray earnestly for Matthew 28:19–20 to be established across the USA—before we share Israel’s fate.
